Black bear

THE BLACK BEAR

Black bears are North Americas most common bear. They are excellent tree climbers and typically live in forests. But can also be found in mountains and swamps. Their name may state that they are black bears but really they can be blue-grey or blue-black, brown, cinnamon or in some cases white
.

Diet; These bears are very opportunistic eaters. They typically eat grasses, roots, berries and insects.
They sometimes eat mammals and fish like carrion and they develop a taste for human foods.
Bears that become habituated in campsites, rural areas or cabins are often killed. This is why you should not feed bears.

Behaviour; These solitary animals roam large territories, though do not defend them from other bears.
The males might wonder a 39-207 square kilometres home range.
When winter comes the black bears spend it in their dens feeding on body fat that they have built up by eating over the summer. Their dens are made in caves, bush piles and burrows.

Black bears den for various length of times depending on the climate. Female bears give birth to two or three blind cubs at one time.
